5. External factors

Companies and organisation do not operate in a vacuum. They work within a business environment and they work within a web of regulations.

And so when an external change comes along, the system may have to accommodate it. A review is a good place to plan for this.

Examples of external change

  • The company has installed new kiosks at their dealers and shops for customers to use.
  • Tax levels such as VAT changing
  • Legal obligations such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act in the USA that changed the way companies run if trading in America
  • Data protection requirements such as a change to the Data Protection Act
  • Changes to any formal quality standards the company uses such as BS (British Standards) or ISO (European) standards
